Judy and Cecil celebrate 50 years together!
November 2010
Born and raised in Mississippi, the Goforth family has a long history of farming and logging in Newton and Lauderdale counties. Judy and Cecil recently celebrated 50 years of marriage with their family and friends.

Cecil and Judy started Goforth Farms in 1981 with the purchase of the land in Lauderdale county. Once Cecil retired from the insurance business in 1993, he was able to begin his pursuit of breeding purebred cattle full time and the choice was Simmental.

Born and raised in Porterville, California and a 1994 graduate of Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo with a degree in Animal Science, Shani moved here to Mississippi in 2002 with her husband - an officer and a pilot in the United States Marine Corps. After teaching Agriculture Science and Animal Husbandry and coaching FFA students for two years in California, Shani was lucky enough to land in Meridian with the Goforth's and it was a "dream come true". Both of the Hay kids were born in Mississippi - Nina coming in 2003 and Luke following in 2005. Shani loves to show cutting horses as well as cows and living in Mississippi allows her to do both.
